Everyone is working harder than ever and we all look forward to taking a vacation and relaxing. but what happens when your budget doesn't leave much for your vacation time? One easy fix is to find inexpensive vacations that also provide you with the right balance of relaxation and stimulation, and hopefully a touch  of luxury too. There are several steps you can take to give yourself the vacation you want on the budget you can afford.

Swap homes. Home Exchange is the vacation alternative where you stay in my house and I stay in yours. There are two types of exchanges: home exchange and hospitality exchange. Home exchangers trade their homes, condominiums or apartments at a time that is convenient to both parties, but these are not the only types of accommodations that one gets to choose from. For example, one exchanger traded his home for a 40-foot yacht. Another couple swapped their villa in Italy for a RV in Oregon because they had always wanted to tour the U.S. in true nomadic style. Often, home exchangers will include their automobiles as part of the package. Hospitality exchangers, on the other hand, host each other in their homes at designated times. Your home exchange partners stay with you as guests and then you go and stay with them as their guests. There is a social aspect to this kind of exchange that some exchangers particularly enjoy. Conceivably, you also get a built-in tour guide with this mode of exchange. If the idea of home exchange is unfamiliar to you, or even a bit frightening, rest assured, there are 250,000+ successful home exchanges every year. Swapping homes can bring many unexpected rewards. Every exchange is unique and the whole concept of home exchange relies on building a relationship of mutual trust and goodwill. As with all things, there are risks involved. It's natural to have reservations about giving up your home to strangers.

Timing is Everything. Avoid holidays and traditional vacations times. You can visit places in Florida in off season months like September through November or in  May. The weather is beautiful, the lines are shorter and most  hotels and even some theme parks offer reduced rates. Additionally, if your vacations take place during the spring or fall, gas will be cheaper as you won't have to run the AC or the heater. When it comes to eating out, not just seniors can save with early bird specials, Many restaurants offer early bird specials if you eat before 6 pm. Eat a little early and treat yourself to the movies afterwards. Of course you may want to go to the matinee movie and save as much as 50% on your ticket. While we are talking about movies you should Join for FREE the Regal Crown Club program and earn rewards for going to the movies. Earn credits for  Free movies, popcorn, soft drinks and more!  Your rewards are waiting!

Be Flexible. Many airlines, cruise lines and hotels will offer last minute travel  deals or deals on special days that are traditionally less busy. When I look for airline tickets, I always try to fly on Tuesdays, because that is traditionally the slowest day for air travel. Southwest has a great feature on their website that lets you pick a destination, then see the prices on each day to find the best deal. I have literally saved thousands of dollars using this simple feature.  Cruise lines also have special rates for the less busy times of the year.

Sign up for Newsletters. May of your favorite places may offer discounts to returning customers or people who signed up for their newsletter. The newsletter may contain discount codes or other specials. You may want to make a special Gmail or yahoo account so that your inbox doesn't get filled up with clutter, but a little spam is worth the opportunity to save hundreds on your dream vacation.

Join a Hotel Chain membership. Almost every major hotel chain offers membership cards. On most cards you get points for every night you stay in their hotels and when you have enough points you can stay in a hotel for Free! Many of us already have a favorite chain we use when we travel, so all this is doing is rewarding our loyalty. If your work pays for you to travel, see if you can book the rooms and airfare yourself and then be reimbursed. You can book and get the points and have your business pick up the tab, possibly earning a free night or a free flight without any out of pocket expense at all!

Take a nature vacation. You don't have to camp or be a total naturalist to enjoy some beautiful nature spots across the country. Get off the beaten path and vacation with an affordable "back to nature" sojourn. There are many ways to enjoy ecotourism as a family adventure or individual alternative to luxury hotels and pretentious over priced theme parks. For some great inexpensive (or even free) nature spots in California check out California Nature.  Despite the large metropolitan areas like San Francisco and Los Angeles, California still manages to be home to much of the country’s most striking and varied nature, from purple mountains’ majesty to arid, marvelously barren desert to coastlines of unsurpassed beauty.

To enjoy Floridian nature try Floridian Nature.  Many of the destinations included are literally off the beaten path. Others are in towns or on main routes but have an unusual or or specific nature appeal. The first two-time Gold Medal winner honoring the nation's best state park service, Florida's state park system is one of the largest in the country with 160 parks, most of which are open 365 days a year. Florida's state parks, which span more than 700,000 acres and include more than 100 miles of sandy white beach, provide an affordable outing for people of all ages.
